More Information

We are a group of citizens with a mission to fight local spending and tax increases. Do you question the wisdom of continually raising the tax burden on local residents and businesses? Have you wanted to do something about high taxes but didn't for fear that your individual action wouldn't have a chance against the big-government inclinations of City Hall? Together, we can lower taxes.

Municipal spending in Alexandria has skyrocketed in the last few years. Actual spending grew 38 percent between 2000 and 2006 (from $356 to $566 million). Based on 2007 budget figures (which project outlays rising to $615), spending will have jumped by an astounding 72 percent in the city in just eight years. Of course, your taxes have to be increased to pay for this.

All Alexandria taxpayers are encouraged to join the group - property owners or not. Property taxes, entertainment ticket taxes, cigarette taxes, cell phone taxes - they affect everyone - property owner or not. You may have learned of us when you met a forming member at a candidate forum, or you might have picked up a flyer. If you're concerned, if you want to be involved and help others realize that they too can have a say in their tax  increases, email us at
atu@atuonline.org.
